Finding ways to maintain a stable mind is hugely important for us all, and this has certainly proven more difficult to obtain over the past two years, where everyone’s resolve has been put through the ultimate test due to the Covid-19 outbreak. It can also be massively impactful for anyone living with health conditions such as Cancer or Parkinson’s, with these extra concerns only adding to the often overwhelming feelings of stress typically experienced on a daily basis.

That’s why Mental Health Awareness Week was introduced, as this gives people the platform they need to talk openly about concerns within a safe and understanding environment.

What is Mental Health Awareness Week?

This annual event is hosted by The Mental Health Foundation, who put the spotlight on mental well-being across the entire UK, and has done since its inception 21-years ago. Every year, a brand new theme is introduced to help people understand how to deter certain effects and start living a more fulfilling life. Since the event first started, this has also become a permanent feature not only here in the UK, but across the entire globe.

What is This Year’s Theme?

Loneliness will be the main theme for this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week, as this would have become a hugely widespread problem for many in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic. That’s why this year’s campaign aims to bring people back together to ensure we can deter the effects of loneliness and lend a helping hand to those who need it most.

How To Combat Loneliness

Creating more positivity is much simpler than you probably realise. Take a look at just two simple ways to boost your mood.

Don’t Compare Yourself To Others

People who feel lonely are often under the impression that everyone else’s life is so much better than theirs. Sound familiar? It’s common for adults to scour through social media and gaze upon what’s essentially a false representation of someone’s life, and compare this inaccurate portrayal to their own.

In reality, most of what you see online is airbrushed with the negative aspects taken out of the equation, so try to avoid comparing yourself to something which could easily be fake.

Try Companion Care

It can be quite hard for older people, or those living with limiting health conditions, to get out and about. Companion care can be the perfect solution, as this gives you a permanent source for human contact within the comfort of your own home.

They’ll be there to alleviate any mental health concerns that you may have, and also support you with your daily activities such as getting dressed and preparing meals. We are incredibly selective about the carers and companions we provide, as it’s essential companion care workers become a meaningful friend over a long period of time.
